08 Oct Brakes for Breasts – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Looking to get your brakes checked before heading into the winter months?
Has it been a long time since your brakes were checked? Why not help a great cause while you’re at it.
Z’s Car Care is supporting Brakes for Breasts, who is celebrating 10 years of putting the brakes on breast cancer. We believe that prevention is the cure, and we’ve raised over $940,000 over the last decade to prove it.
Brakes for Breasts unites the hands of Independent Auto Repair shops to provide their customers with free brake pads or shoes—the customers simply pay for the labor and any other parts that may be needed.
We will then donate 10% of that total throughout the month of October to the Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund—a team led by Dr. Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic. We’re proud to be an industry that stands united to put the Brakes on Breast Cancer!
Do I need new brakes?
Are you wondering if you need your brake pads or shoes replaced?
Brakes wear with use. How long your specific brake pads will last depends on the brake pad material, type of vehicle, and how you drive (the less you stay off the pedals, the better!)
You have to replace your brake pads before they wear out completely and stop working altogether. You don’t want to get into a situation where you’re on the road and don’t have working brakes, especially in an emergent stopping situation.
If your car is experiencing any of these symptoms, you should get your brakes checked right away:
- Brake light illuminated
- Squealing or grinding noises upon braking
- Wobbling, scraping, or vibration while braking
- Leaky fluid
- Soft or spongy brake pedal
- Car turning to one side when braking
- Burning smell while driving
- Bouncing up & down when stopping short
It’s time to stop putting off that brake check-up and head on over to Z’s Car Care, or head to one of the independent auto repair shops participating in the fundraiser!
Where the money goes
The Brakes for Breasts fundraiser is different from any other breast cancer fundraising campaigns. Dr. Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic has created a vaccine that has proved effective in laboratory animals in preventing breast cancer. His team is obviously very excited about these results. They are hoping to start Phase 1 trials in early 2021, and they need our help! 100% of the proceeds from Brakes for Breasts goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic for research on the breast cancer vaccine. The participating locations are mom & pop shops along with independent retailers that care about coming together for a better cause.
Not only will you be supporting local businesses, but you’ll be contributing to the greater cause of defeating breast cancer! So if your brakes need attention—October is the time to take action. Visit our website for more information!
